“SLOSHERS” – RED PHILO

20 July, 2010 (16:13) | Sounds | No comments

“Way back in the early part of this millenium, there was a guy named Red, and a guy named Philo. They decided to try their hand at making some strage hybrid of hip hop/ country/ blues/ folk/ rock & roll/ they probably can’t even explain what the fuck it is. At any rate, they released one album entitled “the red philo project,” which enjoyed moderate success in the western North Carolina region. Those were the carefree days, when the future was bright, the beer was cold and cheap, and the weed wasn’t all that good but they had no idea how potent it could actually be. Years went by, and the two lost touch. However, about four years after the release of their first project, they ran into each other, slightly more mature, slightly more jaded, and not the least bit better off, financially speaking. They recorded two songs in this period. What you are about to listen to is the first of the duo. It is entitled “Sloshers,” and is a slightly drunken Philo’s narrative of a tour he & Harvy Murkelson did in the Northeast opening for GFE in the spring of 2006. Don’t even bother asking what Philo’s saying in the chorus, he can’t even figure it out, and he’s the one who said it. Enjoy.” -Philo

NEW ALBUM?

11 July, 2010 (10:06) | Fist, News | 2 comments

If I’m not mistaken we only have two more songs to finish recording for this new album produced completely by Al Lover. The first “Screaming Out the Grave” featuring Mo Classics and myself, Gus Cutty, with Jay Eazy crooning on the hook is a little song exploring the concept of having the opportunity at a second lease on life. The other song unnamed and unwritten with the exception of the hook, is an interesting experiment featuring a rap chorus by yours truly accompanied by two verses of singing by two very different personalities, Jay Eazy and Linus. I cannot wait to see how this one turns out. Anyway, Ill be heading into the studio to complete my parts this week, then once all the raps are done Philo is going to go over the entire project and play bass, then finally young Henry Westmoreland will play horns where appropriate. This album is amazing so far and I know yall will like it. Besides that both the other new Fist Fam album and the Ironfist album are close to completion. Yall aint heard much new music from us in a while I know, unless you’ve seen our shows, but rest assured, we have been working hard and the fruits of labor are ripening as I type. Back to work now. See yall at the bar.

Here is a song I wrote and recorded over a Freeway and Jake One beat all about waking up in the middle of the night to troops in the streets rounding up the citizens to transport us to slave camps. It’s been sitting around in the studio so I figure it’s time to give it some play. Feel free to repost this link and let me know how you like it.

Besides all that, Philo and I (Gus Cutty) recently wrote and recorded the last song for the new Ironfist album titled “Homesick” all about, you guessed it, North Carolina. We begin mix down on the new album this week, and the Philo produced vinyl release should be available by the end of summer. The Crazy Mob album is in mix down right now, Ill keep you posted with any developments. Are day to day has turned very productive, and self destructive, as of late. With the entire crew single, and beats pouring generously into the atmosphere, we have begun writing and recording a ridiculous amount of new material. Just last weekend as a crew we wrote and recorded 7 new songs and played a legendary show. And so far this work week has produced three more tracks that I know of, it’s hard to keep track of, and that’s a good thing. The new Fist Fam record is completely produced by Al Lover and will be released on Reflective Flesh Records on vinyl this August. The main characters being Ironfist (Philo and Gus Cutty), Doublefist (Ronny Mac and Jay Eaze), LQ Savee, Mimo, and the triumphant return to rap, Linus. Other albums in the works include LQR Sick (Ronny Mac and LQ Savee), a Micah Aza produced Fist Fam album, and a project with Big Shawn, of Bored Stiff fame. Keep checking back and I swear if I do slack I’ll catch yall up in due time.

“New Mixtape, 60s Garage and British Invasion stuff. It’s a pretty good range of straight blues influenced tracks to more R&B inspired ones (way to steal black music, fellas). Super Dirty, I hope you like it. Download it for free here.
